Full-Time Wireless Engineer

Ashburn Consulting is partnering with WMATA to modernize its IT infrastructure. This role requires designing efficient wireless systems for challenging indoor/outdoor environments. Focus is on 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11 technologies, and knowledge of other wireless technologies is valuable.

Responsibilities include:

• Managing tasks, milestones, and deliverables for wireless service integration.
• Preparing detailed reports with cost estimates, timelines, and technical strategies.
• Creating presentations on impact analysis of design decisions.
• Analyzing customer requirements for network services.
• Acting as the point of contact for the NCS department.
• Ensuring accurate and timely delivery of deliverables by in-house staff and contractors.

Qualifications required include:

• Knowledge of radio frequency theory and wave propagation.
• Understanding of antenna fundamentals.
• Ability to resolve radio frequency interference.
• Experience with site surveys and wireless design.
• Proficiency with propagation analysis software.
• Knowledge of spectrum analyzers.
• Extensive Cisco wireless controller knowledge (5500 series).
• Ability to create and configure new wireless LANs and APs (FlexConnect, 1550, 3600).
• Strong understanding of Cisco Prime/WCS, Mobility Services Engine, and network fundamentals (subnets, protocols).
• Knowledge of 802.1X/802.11i standards and firewall applications.
• Ability to configure WLANs with PEAP and RADIUS.
• Experience detecting rogue access points and wireless attacks.
• Capability to create test networks.
• Experience measuring performance with data collection tools.
• Proficiency with Cisco debug commands and wireless analyzers.

Additional Requirements:

• 10+ years of wireless design experience, with 5+ years focused on 802.11 networks.
