Position Overview The AT Expert III will serve as the Program Manager for assistive technology (AT) training and support programs at the Social Security Administration (SSA). This role involves overseeing AT implementation, supervising staff, ensuring quality assurance, and managing workloads while supporting SSA personnel with disabilities. The On-Site Manager will also be responsible for program operations, staff development, and compliance with accessibility standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Program Manager, overseeing AT implementation and training operations.
- Supervise and manage AT experts and support staff, ensuring efficient workload distribution and adherence to quality standards.
- Develop, review, and update assistive technology navigation materials and training resources.
- Provide technical guidance on the use of Dragon, JAWS, ZoomText, Kurzweil 3000, and other AT tools used at SSA.
- Ensure compliance with Section 508 standards and SSA’s accessibility policies.
- Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure AT training materials meet federal accessibility guidelines.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for AT training, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Coordinate with SSA stakeholders, IT teams, and accessibility specialists to evaluate and enhance AT solutions.
- Provide technical writing support, documenting step-by-step instructions for using AT software and hardware.
- Stay up to date with new versions of assistive technology software and quickly adapt to changes.
- Assist with project management tasks, including tracking progress, reporting, and resource allocation.

- Technical Expertise – In-depth knowledge of Dragon, JAWS, ZoomText, and Kurzweil 3000 with the ability to learn new versions quickly.

Required
- Must possess at least five (5) years of experience in management, including:
- Distributing workloads among staff
- Ensuring quality assurance
- Must possess at least three (3) years of experience working with AT in use at SSA, including:
- At least one (1) year of experience with the most recent versions of at least three (3) of the following:
- JAWS (Version 23 or higher)
- ZoomText Magnifier/Reader (Version 2023 or higher)
- Dragon (Version 16 or higher)
- Kurzweil 3000 (Version 16 or higher)
- At least one (1) year of experience with the most recent versions of at least three (3) of the following:
- Must also possess at least two (2) years of experience with:
- Supervising staff and project management
- Distributing workloads and managing resources effectively.
- Conducting quality assurance for AT training materials.
- Proficiency in technical writing, including the ability to document clear, step-by-step AT instructions.
- Ability to quickly learn new versions of AT software and adapt to evolving accessibility technologies.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., IT, Education, Assistive Technology).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Moderate Risk Public Trust (Security Level 5C) clearance.
- Successful completion of a Tier 2 / Tier 2R background investigation is required.
- U.S. Citizenship may be required depending on agency policies.
Preferred
- Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., IT, Education, Assistive Technology) or equivalent experience.
- Experience with additional assistive technology solutions and automation applications.
- Strong understanding of federal accessibility compliance standards, including Section 508.
- Experience providing training and support for individuals with disabilities.
Pay & Benefits
Pay Range: $68,993 – 70,800 per year
