General SummaryThe key responsibilities are to teach core graduate nursing courses. Reports to Core Coordinator in the MSN program. Part-time faculty work with other faculty and administrators. Maintain a program of scholarship/practice in specialty area; assist with faculty orientation, development, mentoring/monitoring, and evaluation; participate in school and university committee service.
What to Expect as a Walden Faculty MemberEducate students effectively using online technology. Thoughtful, well-written, timely communications, respectful of students, faculty, Walden University, and the discipline.
TrainingNew faculty receive training in online teaching techniques, LMS use, policies/procedures, socialization, assessment of academic integrity, and research supervision. Teaching assignments contingent on training completion. First-term faculty may have a peer mentor.
Course Teaching/AvailabilityAssigned courses taught using an LMS; interact with students in LMS. Discussion Boards open 24/7. Minimum 4 days/week in the classroom; respond to student questions within 48 hours. Regular online availability (office hours/chats) suggested.
Tools/Technical SkillsRequires personal computer with virus protection and internet access; Walden email account and access to the learning platform.
Internal RequirementsMust be credentialed, have an earned degree from an accredited institution (or recognized by a ministry of education in the discipline), and may need licensure. Maintain licenses/certifications; stay current in research. Travel to university events and residencies may be required.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCEEarned MSN, and Doctorate (preferably in Nursing) from an accredited institution, with demonstrated coursework in nursing education, nursing informatics or nursing leadership and management. Record of professional scholarly contributions; minimum 2 years teaching graduate courses. Commitment to distance learning student development; experience with distance learning preferred. Current RN licensure required.
Excellent communication, team, and human-relations skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENTStandard office environment with potential for moderate noise. Operation of computer equipment (6-8 hours/day). Physical demands of a traditional office setting.
TravelContributing faculty may travel to university events; core faculty have required travel.
CompensationGraduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester. Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter. Adjustments based on factors permitted by law.
