• Must be knowledgeable about arts, food, trends and the culture scene in Hamilton.
• Identify, assign and edit stories on relevant topics for Hamilton Spectator readers.
• Generate content that guides readers on the Hamilton culture scene.
• Demonstrate ability in working on tight deadlines and thinking creatively.
• Collaborate with reporters and form connections with key community members.

• Rewriting and editing content.
• Providing constructive feedback to reporters.
• Generating story ideas.
• Staying on top of the culture scene in Hamilton.
• Producing stories with photo and video, and posting to web.
• Writing social media posts.
• Editing copy for style, language usage and logical presentation.
• Slotting print pages and working with web files.
• Understanding and flagging libel and defamation.
• Maintaining and updating tracking documents.

• Degree/diploma in journalism, communications, or related field.
• At least two years of experience in a digital news environment.
• Proficient with content management systems and SEO.
• Superb news judgment and attention to detail.
• Knowledge of Canadian Press Style.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
