The Director of Learning and Technology is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic integration and management of technology to optimize learning and development within an organization. This position bridges the gap between training goals and the technological tools needed to achieve them effectively.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Technical Strategy and Implementation: Create and implement technical strategies for learning technologies, incorporating industry standard methodologies. Own the research, implementation and integration of new learning platforms, tools, and systems.
- Platform Management and Administration: Supervise the technical administration, configuration, and maintenance of our Learning Management System (LMS) and other learning technology platforms. Ensure data integrity, security, and optimal performance. Maintain and input LMS content to ensure timely availability of learning materials. Monitor system usage and collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure content relevance.
- Technical Development and Integration: Use knowledge of relevant programming languages and authoring tools to support and train other instructional designers to use available content development tools. Innovate and collaborate with IT resources to automate processes while acting as a liaison between Learning & Development and IT departments for integration projects.
- Technical Support: Provide expert-level technical support to instructional designers, content developers, and end-users for all learning technology-related issues.
- New Technologies: Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in learning technologies, evaluating their potential application to improve our learning programs. Experiment with and pilot new tools and approaches.
- Program Management & Development (eLearning): Lead direct and dotted line reports, providing direction, coaching, and support for performance and professional development. Draft, regularly update, and edit learning content - review workshop presentations, eLearning content, handouts & supporting materials to develop a consistent voice across L&D content that is up to date. Set the strategy, framework, and roadmap for learning activities, and ensuring alignment with business objectives and priorities. Optimize digital training strategies, including e-learning modules and interactive courses, ensuring engagement and knowledge retention.
- Operations/Vendor Management: Collaborate external vendors for the selection, implementation, and support of learning technology solutions. Oversee collection of usage data across all learning platforms and provide related reports including learning progress, completion rates, and engagement metrics. Oversee multiple projects and partnerships, establishing governance processes to find synergies and opportunities for improvement. Administer budget allocations, including tracking expenses, managing vendor payments, and coordinating invoices.
- Bachelor's degree in instructional technology, information technology, computer science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in educational technology, with leadership/management and supervisory experience required.
- Proficiency with learning management systems (LMS): Administration, configuration, and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of learning technologies: Including web and media-based tools, authoring tools, emerging technologies, and digital platform management.
- Technical troubleshooting and support: Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to learning technologies and provide support to faculty and staff.
- Data analysis and interpretation: Understanding of data analytics and the ability to use data to inform instructional decisions.
- Strategic planning and vision: Developing and implementing a strategic vision for technology integration in learning.
- Team leadership and development: Managing and mentoring a team of professionals in educational technology.
- Communication and collaboration: Effective communication with various stakeholders and strong collaboration skills.
- Project management: Overseeing technology projects and initiatives, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Budget management: Developing and managing the technology budget.
