Full-Time Electrical Controls Engineer

Core ObjectiveThe ELECTRICAL CONTROLS ENGINEER is an integral person in helping our customer’s vision for an automated storage solution from Movu US come to life. The core objectives are to support Sales and Engineering during the pre-sale phase by answering questions on system integration and to support project execution by designing, testing, troubleshooting, and supporting product implementation and system integration.

Solutions: Fully automated storage solutions including pallet shuttles (atlas), tote shuttles (escala), automated mobile robots (ifollow), as well as our picking robot (eligo) and ancillary systems such as conveyors and lifts.

Customers: End users are located throughout the United States and Canada. We work with many of the leading integrators as our Sales partners.

As our ELECTRICAL CONTROLS ENGINEER, you will:

1. Support Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Commissioning by sharing your expertise of the final installation and system integrations
2. Support the creation of the functional description specifications regarding the installation of electrical equipment and the commissioning of controls
3. Draft documentation such as SOPs and contribute to creating manuals
4. Develop and design electrical cabinets
5. Create schematics and network diagrams
6. Design controls algorithms and safety systems
7. Program device communication of pallet conveyance and pallet inspection equipment
8. Test and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems and processes
9. Work closely with R&D
10. Source external vendors for materials
11. Lead engineering and automation teams through concept planning, configuration, and development
12. Contribute to the creation of risk assessment documents that identify hazards in a system
13. Optimize the system by offering simulation support
14. Support the Sales Engineering team with product testing
15. Contribute to the mechanical system layout drawings regarding all electrical and controls specifications including cable routing
16. Contribute to the development of test plans alongside the Commissioning Team
17. Make Full Load Amps calculations
18. Ensure UL listed components are selected and cabinet is assembled compliant to such standards
19. Be present on-site at First Power Up to make sure everything is operational after rack installation and to make sure everything is functional before our robots are commissioned
20. Be present on-site when commissioning is in final stages to prepare the Movu system for handover to the end-customer
21. Perform Site Acceptance Testing

Technical Requirements

• Minimum of 5-10 years of experience with controls and electrical engineering of custom automation
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation, Robotics, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering
• PLC and HMI Programming experience (we use Beckhoff, but experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell, etc. is just fine)
• Experience with automation controls, monitoring systems, safety area scanners and safety controllers
• Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
• Comfortable using 2D (required) and 3D (nice to have) CAD software for design of electrical diagrams and schematics
• Experience with ePlan or comparable software would be the cherry on top

Practical Requirements

• Live either in commutable distance to our Romeoville, IL office, or close to a major airport; preferably somewhere in EST or CST
• Willing and able to travel to customer sites at an average of 50%, usually no longer than 2 weeks at a time; throughout the United States and occasionally to Canada; the travel percentage is expected to reduce to 30% over time as we grow the team
• For onboarding and training, travel to our headquarters in Belgium (usually no more than 2 weeks at a time)
• We work closely with our European colleagues. The morning hours are the most important so we can connect with them while our business hours overlap across time zones. If you love starting your workday mid-morning or later, you would hate it here. Most people start their workday at 8 am CST and some love to start earlier so they can wrap up earlier at the end of the day
