Core ObjectiveThe Electrical Engineer is responsible for delivering project solutions and on-site electrical commissioning, adhering to engineering standards. This includes applying standardized solutions to meet project specifications and ensuring design/implementation alignment with predefined guidelines.
The role also involves creating and modifying electrical diagrams (as-built documentation) to accurately reflect final installations. Standardized solutions are prioritized; deviations and complex problems are handled collaboratively with other engineering functions.
Responsibilities
- Electrical support of Commissioning
- Creation of functional description specifications for electrical equipment installation and control system commissioning
- Drafting documentation (SOPs, manuals)
- Designing schematics and network diagrams
- Designing controls algorithms and safety systems
- Testing and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems
- Sourcing external vendors for materials
- Contributing to risk assessment documents
- Contributing to mechanical system layout drawings
- Developing test plans alongside Commissioning Team
- Performing Full Load Amps calculations
- Ensuring UL listed components and cabinet assembly compliance (e.g., UL508A, NEC, NFPA79)
- On-site presence for First Power Up, system functionality checks, and robot commissioning
- On-site presence during final commissioning stages, preparing the system for handover
- Performing Site Acceptance Testing (electrical perspective)
- Maintaining as-built documentation
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Automation, Robotics, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Experience with automation controls, monitoring systems, safety area scanners, and safety controllers
- Ability to install, configure, and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems
- Proficient in 2D CAD software (required); 3D CAD software (preferred) for electrical diagram/schematic design
- Knowledge of UL508 standards
- ASRS/WCS expertise, advanced PLC/WCS integration, and leadership in execution
- Experience with ePlan or AutoCAD Electrical (preferred)
Practical Requirements
- Commutable distance to Romeoville, IL office, or close to a major airport (preferably EST or CST time zone)
- Willingness to travel to customer sites (50% initially, reducing to 30% as team grows); primarily within the US and occasionally in Canada; trips typically no longer than 2 weeks at a time
- Willingness to travel to Belgium headquarters for onboarding and training (typically no longer than 2 weeks)
- Strong preference for morning work hours to align with European colleagues' schedules
