SUMMARY OF POSITION AND OBJECTIVES: The Database Administrator is responsible for the design, installation, configuration, upgrading, and maintenance of databases. They ensure the smooth running of database systems by optimizing performance, performing regular backups, and managing database security. The role requires an in-depth understanding of database management systems (DBMS), SQL, performance tuning, and high availability solutions.
Job description: Seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with over 6 years of experience in managing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server databases. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of SQL Server, Azure Cloud environments, T-SQL development, and is skilled in automating DBA tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Administration: Manage and maintain SQL Server databases across environments (development, staging, production) ensuring high availability, scalability, and security. Perform routine maintenance tasks (backups, restores, reindexing, performance monitoring).
- Implement and manage: database replication, clustering, Always On availability groups, and other HA/DR strategies.
- Ensure database security: by managing access permissions, roles, and implementing security best practices.
- Azure Cloud Management: Administer SQL Server instances hosted on Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and Azure Virtual Machines. Implement and manage database migrations from on-premises to Azure cloud, ensuring minimal downtime and data consistency.
- Optimize database performance: in the cloud environment, using Azure monitoring tools and recommendations.
- T-SQL Development: Develop and optimize complex T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions. Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues.
- Automation of Repetitive DBA Tasks: Automate routine tasks (backup/restore, health checks, maintenance) using PowerShell and SQL Server Agent Jobs. Create and maintain T-SQL scripts.
- Backup and Restore Operations: Perform and automate backup/restore processes between on-premises and cloud databases, ensuring reliable disaster recovery mechanisms and testing recovery procedures.
- Change Data Capture (CDC): Implement and manage CDC to track changes in the database.
- Job Monitoring and Alerts: Set up monitoring/alerting for SQL Server jobs and system health. Monitor job execution/performance using tools like SQL Server Agent, Grafana, SolarWinds.
- SSL Implementations: Configure and manage SSL/TLS encryption.
- Performance Tuning & Optimization: Continuously monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and apply optimizations.
- Collaboration & Support: Collaborate with development teams and provide on-call support for critical issues.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience: Proven experience in SQL Server performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting. Expertise in Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance deployments, migrations, and management.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of SQL Server architecture, including HA/DR solutions. PowerShell scripting experience. CDC experience. Familiarity with monitoring tools like Grafana, SolarWinds.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication, and ability to collaborate across teams.
Desired Qualifications: Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert.
Working hours: Monday to Friday - 08:00 to 17:00
