Full-Time Mainframe DB2 Database Engineer

Arthur Grand Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mainframe DB2 Database Engineer for a remote position.

Job Summary: Ensure availability, performance, and reliability of DB2 systems. Deep understanding of IBM System Z and DB2 environments, focusing on diagnostics, recovery strategies, and performance tuning.

Primary Duties:

1. Ensure DB2 availability and implement recovery strategies/procedures (25%).
2. Diagnose and troubleshoot DB2 errors/performance issues, optimizing SQL and processes (25%).
3. Create and manage comprehensive database reports (20%).
4. Utilize IBM DB2 utilities and CA tools for database management and optimization (15%).
5. Perform performance/capacity tuning of system parameters/resources using monitoring tools (10%).
6. Conduct technical/application-related problem analysis and resolution (5%).

Required Skills and Experience:

• 10+ years experience with IBM System Z concepts and technologies.
• Expertise with IBM DB2 utilities, CA Tools for DB2, backup/recovery/logging strategies.
• Strong knowledge of DB2 database management and deployment.
• Proficiency with IBM CICS, batch COBOL, and IBM Information Management System.
• Experience in performance and capacity tuning using monitoring and reporting tools.
• Proficiency in problem analysis and resolution for both technical and application issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Rational ClearQuest, and Rational ClearCase.
• Experience working within a CMMi Level 3 environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of Java, web services, and SOA concepts.
• Experience with Application Management Services.
