Morning Edition Newsletter Editor is responsible for the Monday-Friday Sydney Morning Herald and Age Morning Edition newsletters (over 170,000 subscribers). The role provides a concise, comprehensive, and readable summary of daily news, features, and opinions.
Responsibilities include:
- Curating the Morning Edition newsletter for both publications, selecting top news stories based on value, reader interest, and brand values.
- Writing engaging introductions and summaries of the day's top stories, highlighting related content.
- Monitoring print editions, online homepages, internal runsheets, and evening newsletters to guide editing decisions.
- Tracking breaking news and competitor coverage for news agenda analysis.
- Analyzing audience data for the Morning Edition.
- Ensuring the newsletter reflects diverse coverage and brand authority.
Requirements:
- Extensive journalistic experience in a daily newsroom.
- Strong news judgment and clear, concise writing style.
- Familiarity with defamation law, contempt of court, and related legal considerations.
- Excellent proofreading skills.
- Understanding of local, national, and international current affairs.
- Digital news production proficiency.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication.
- Experience in newsletter production and strategy (preferred).
