WHAT TO EXPECT AS A WALDEN FACULTY MEMBER Faculty members educate Walden University students using online technology and resources to provide knowledge, feedback, and timely communication. Faculty grade assignments, participate in discussions, respond to student emails, and utilize technology for enhanced learning experiences in a respectful manner.
TRAINING All new faculty receive online teaching training, platform use, school/college policies, and Walden culture integration. Assessment of academic integrity and research supervision are part of the training.
COURSE/TEACHING AVAILABILITY Faculty teach courses on Canvas, interacting with students. Discussion boards are open 24/7. Minimum of 4 days/week classroom presence is expected, with responses to student questions within 48 hours. Regular online office hours or chats are suggested.
TOOLS/TECHNICAL SKILLS Required duties must be performed satisfactorily. Evaluation is based on performance. Reasonable accommodations are available.
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION Faculty must be credentialed, currently practicing FNPs, have an earned degree from an accredited institution, and may need licensure/license eligibility. Licenses and certifications must be maintained. Faculty must stay current with research.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Must have a doctorate and a record of professional scholarly contributions. Minimum one year higher education teaching experience. Current clinical experience in NP practice is required. Online teaching experience (1-2 years) is required. Commitment to student learning is crucial. Excellent communication, leadership, team, collaboration, and interpersonal skills are needed.
TRAVEL Contributing faculty may travel to university events. Core faculty travel is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily office environment, with some potential exposure to noise. PC use for 6-8 hours daily.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS Personal computer with virus protection and internet access is required. Walden provides email and platform access.
COMPENSATION Varies based on course type, length, and experience. Graduate courses range from $1,560 to $4,080 per quarter/semester. Undergraduate course rates are $700 - $2,200 per quarter.
ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES Dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation/doctoral study mentoring are available.
