What to Expect as a Walden Faculty Member
Educate Walden University students using online technology and resources for knowledge sharing, feedback, and critique in thoughtful, well-written, timely communications.
Responsibilities Include:
- Grading assignments
- Participating in discussions
- Responding to student emails
- Utilizing technology for enhanced learning
Training:
- Walden University provides specific training on online teaching techniques, learning platforms, policies, procedures, and degree programs.
- Training includes assessment of academic integrity and research supervision.
- Teaching and mentorship assignments are contingent upon training completion.
- New faculty members may be assigned a faculty peer mentor for support and feedback.
Course/Teaching Availability:
- Courses are taught using Canvas, with 24/7 access to discussion boards.
- Minimum 4 days/week classroom presence is required.
- Responses to student questions must be posted within 48 hours.
- Regular online office hours or chats are suggested.
Tools/Technical Skills:
- Requires proficiency with personal computer equipment, Internet access, and specific software.
Licensing/Certification:
- Appropriate credentials and current FNP status are required.
- Earned degree from an accredited institution is necessary.
- Potential for licensure or license eligibility in specific programs.
- Maintaining licenses and certifications is required.
- Staying current with research through journal reviews and presentations is expected.
- RN and APRN licensure in Minnesota is required for NP Faculty.
Education and Experience:
- Earned Doctorate
- Professional scholarly contributions in field of specialization
- Minimum 1 year teaching experience in higher education
- Current clinical experience in NP practice
- 1-2 years of online teaching experience required
- Commitment to advocating for student learning needs in distance learning
- Strong oral and written communication, leadership, teamwork, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
Travel:
- Contributing faculty may travel to university events.
- Core faculty require travel throughout the year.
Work Environment:
- Standard office environment with moderate noise levels.
- Daily computer use for 6-8 hours, with traditional office physical demands.
Technology Requirements:
- Personal computer with virus protection and internet access.
- Walden email account and learning platform access
Compensation:
- Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter/Semester
- Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per Quarter
- Adjustments based on job factors, licensure, certifications, etc.
