WHAT TO EXPECT AS A WALDEN FACULTY MEMBER Faculty members educate Walden University students using online technology and resources to ensure effective and thoughtful communication, feedback, and critique. This includes grading assignments, participating in discussions, responding to student emails, and using technology to enhance the learning experience. A respectful environment is required for both students and faculty.
TRAINING All new faculty receive specific training in online teaching techniques, learning platform use, school/college policies, Walden culture, academic integrity assessment, and thesis/dissertation supervision.
COURSE/ TEACHING AVAILABILITY Faculty are assigned courses on Canvas and responsible for student interaction. Discussion boards are open 24/7. Minimum 4 days/week classroom presence. Student responses within 48 hours.
TOOLS/ TECHNICAL SKILLS Ability to perform essential duties proficiently, evaluated based on performance. Reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
LICENSING/ CERTIFICATION Faculty must be appropriately credentialed, currently working as an NP, possess an earned degree, and may need licensure/license eligibility for specific programs. Maintenance of licenses and certifications is required. Research currency required (articles, journals, presentations). Publication opportunities exist.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE Earned Doctorate, professional contributions in field, at least one year teaching experience in higher education, current clinical experience as an NP, teaching experience (online preferred). Commitment to student learning.
TRAVEL Contributing faculty may travel to university events and residencies. Full participation expected.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Primarily office environment, potential for moderate noise. Daily computer use (6-8 hours). Standard office physical demands.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS Personal computer with virus protection and internet access. Walden email, learning platform, faculty website access.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS Specified software like Microsoft Office and Adobe applications, antivirus software.
COMPENSATION Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per Quarter or Semester. Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter. Pay adjustments based on factors like course type, experience, location.
