What to Expect as a Walden Faculty Member
Educate Walden University students using online technology and resources. Effectively impart knowledge, feedback, and critique in thoughtful, well-written, and timely communications. Grade assignments, participate in discussions, respond to student emails, and utilize technology to enhance the learning experience. Maintain respectful interactions with students, faculty, Walden University, and the discipline.
Training
New faculty receive training in online teaching techniques, learning platform use, university policies/procedures, and academic integrity. Training includes socialization into the university culture and research supervision for theses/dissertations. Teaching and mentorship assignments are contingent upon successful training completion.
Course/Teaching Availability
Assign courses using Canvas and interact with students within Canvas. Discussion boards are open 24/7. Minimum 4 days/week in the classroom. Respond to student questions within 48 hours. Regular online availability (e.g., office hours, chats) is suggested, and may be required by program/college policies.
Tools/Technical Skills
Must possess the necessary skills to perform job duties, and be evaluated on this. Reasonable accommodations will be made.
Licensing/Certification
Must be appropriately credentialed (NP), possess an earned degree from an accredited institution, and maintain current licenses/certifications. Maintain currency with research. RN and APRN licensure in Minnesota is required for NP faculty. Evidence of current Advanced Practice certification is required.
Education and Experience
Required: Earned doctorate, record of professional scholarly contributions, at least one year of higher education teaching experience, current clinical experience in NP practice. Preferred: Online teaching experience. Commitment to student learning/development in a distance learning environment. Excellent oral/written communication, leadership, team/collaboration skills.
Travel
Potential for travel to university events/residencies, with expected participation.
Work Environment
Primarily office-based, but potential for moderate noise exposure and use of personal computer equipment for 6-8 hours daily.
Technology Requirements
Personal computer with virus protection and internet access. Walden provides email, learning platform access, faculty website sections, listservs, and communication tools. Required software includes current web browser (IE 9+, Firefox 19+), Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player, Apple QuickTime, Windows Media Player, and antivirus software (e.g., McAfee, Norton).
Compensation
Graduate instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter/semester; Undergraduate instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter. Pay may vary based on factors like course type, experience, location, licensing, market, department budgets, and responsibility.
