WHAT TO EXPECT AS A WALDEN FACULTY MEMBER Faculty members educate Walden University students using online technology and resources, ensuring knowledge, information, feedback, and critique are imparted in thoughtful, well-written, and timely communications.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Grade assignments
- Participate in discussions
- Respond to student emails
- Utilize technology to enhance the learning experience
TRAINING All new faculty receive training in online teaching techniques, learning platform use, school/college policies, university culture, academic integrity assessment, and research supervision.
COURSE/TEACHING AVAILABILITY
- Courses are taught using Canvas
- Interaction with students within Canvas is required
- Discussion boards are open 24/7
- Minimum of 4 days/week classroom presence
- Responses to student questions within 48 hours
TOOLS/TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Proficient use of personal computer, internet, and required software
LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
- Appropriate credentialing as a Nurse Practitioner
- Earned degree from an accredited institution
- Maintain licenses/certifications
- Stay current with research
- RN and APRN licensure in Minnesota required for NP faculty
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Earned Doctorate
- Professional scholarly contributions
- Minimum 1 year higher education teaching experience
- Current clinical experience in NP practice
- Teaching experience, preferably online
- Commitment to student learning in a distance learning environment
- Excellent communication, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
- Board Certification (FNP preferred)
TRAVEL Contributing faculty may travel to university events and residencies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Standard office environment with moderate noise levels and daily computer use.
TECHNOLOGY REQUIREMENTS Personal computer with virus protection, Internet access, and specified software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader). Walden provides email and access to learning platforms.
COMPENSATION
- Graduate courses: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter/semester
- Undergraduate courses: $700 - $2,200 per quarter
