GENERAL SUMMARY: Tempo Learning faculty subject matter experts (faculty SMEs) are student-facing faculty roles. Faculty SMEs are faculty members assigned to one or more competencies based on their subject matter expertise. The core responsibility of faculty SMEs is to serve as the central academic content support for Tempo Learning students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Work directly with students.
- Initiate regular academic engagement.
- Document student academic engagement.
- Hold weekly office hours.
- Respond to student questions promptly.
- Validate student assessments using rubrics.
- Provide constructive feedback.
- Track student engagement using learning analytics.
- Assure curriculum quality.
- Establish regular contact with students.
- Develop sensitivity to cultural differences.
- Exercise patience and tolerance.
- Develop online discussion catalysts.
- Encourage students to take risks and learn from mistakes.
- Create a respectful learning environment.
- Monitor students’ work for academic integrity.
- Regularly review competency content.
Walden Faculty Member Expectations:
- Effectively use online technology and resources.
- Communicate thoughtfully and timely.

Course Teaching/Availability:
- Collaborate with Academic Coaches and other faculty colleagues.
- Respond to student inquiries within 48 hours.
- Return assessments with feedback within 72 hours.
- Publish availability to students.
Technology Requirements:
- Adequate computer, keyboard, and monitor.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, zip software, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Reliable Internet access.
Licensing/Certification:
- Appropriately credentialed.
- Earned degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensed or license-eligible.
- Maintain licenses and certifications.
- Maintain currency with research.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Earned Masters in Nursing (MSN) AND an earned Doctorate (preferably in Nursing).
- Record of professional scholarly contributions.
- Minimum of two years’ experience teaching nursing undergraduate courses.
- Experience in quality improvement, population health, and/or Capstone change project teaching.
- Commitment to advocating for student learning.
- Experience with distance learning preferred.
- Current compact RN licensure required.
- Excellent communication skills.
