Job Responsibilities:
Supports engineering projects and grid operations. Establishes and updates operating limits, documents procedures, and models market impacts of transmission constraints.
Develops ISO policies and methodologies for reliable transmission grid operation and efficient market operation.
Supports development and documentation of operating requirements and outage plans to meet NERC standards and pre-established guidelines. Conducts operating studies and contingency analyses (power flow, short circuit, stability, post-transient).
Ensures compliance with internal procedures and government regulations. Acts as a point of contact for operations engineering.
Attends operations planning meetings to communicate daily plans. Models transmission constraints in the market to ensure efficient operations.
Provides engineering support for model validation and market price investigations. Supports ISO divisions and departments.
Provides details about the ISO controlled grid and control area to management. May represent ISO interests in industry committees.
Compiles, analyzes, and submits data/reports compliant with external standards.
Develops, implements, and documents automated programs for monitoring and detecting transmission system problems.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on Electrical Power Engineering.
Experience: 2+ years related experience.
Certifications: NERC Reliability Authority (or System Operator) Certification and Professional Engineer License are desired.
Skills:
- Experience with simulation and analysis of electric power systems (harmonics, transients, stability, load flow).
- Proficient with simulation programs like EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC, PSS/E, GE PSLF, and SuperHarm.
- Familiarity with California Electric System or WECC systems.
- Electric utility experience in operations, planning, market operations, renewable integration, smart grid, design, maintenance, protection relays, energy management systems, and SCADA.
- Strong communication, documentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration and conflict resolution.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Project, Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
