Principal Data Engineer
Lead the design, development, and support of data platforms ensuring scalable, high-performance solutions that empower data-driven decisions. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead data architecture & strategy using Databricks on AWS.
- Define long-term data engineering strategies (roadmaps, architecture, scalability plans, emerging technologies integration).
- Ensure data warehouse performance, reliability, and optimization.
- Establish standards for query performance, storage efficiency, and data processing workflows.
- Architect and oversee complex ETL pipeline development to integrate data from multiple sources.
- Automate data ingestion, transformation, and delivery.
- Implement data quality frameworks (accuracy, consistency, completeness).
- Define and enforce data governance practices for compliance and security.
- Partner with data scientists, product managers, and engineering teams.
- Mentor data engineers, fostering innovation and continuous learning.
- Develop monitoring systems to resolve performance issues, anomalies, and data discrepancies.
- Provide expert troubleshooting for complex technical challenges.
- Maintain detailed documentation of systems, processes, and configurations.
- Implement coding standards, data governance policies, and security best practices.
Experience: 10+ years in data engineering, with at least 3 years in leadership.
Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Databricks, Cloud Platforms (AWS/Azure/Google Cloud), SQL, Python, Spark, and ETL tools (Fivetran).
Nice to Have: Experience with event tracking tools (Segment).
Problem Solving: Proven ability to solve complex challenges and derive insights from large datasets.
Mentoring & Collaboration: Experienced in mentoring and collaborating across business functions.
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication, articulating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (Master's preferred).
