CFO.com seeks a reporter to provide timely, insightful reporting to serve chief financial officers and finance executives. This includes enterprise reporting, in-depth features analyzing the trends and issues affecting the CFO role, high-profile Q&As, and reporting on corporate finance risks and opportunities.
Reporters are expected to support the team’s mission through subject matter expertise in the various areas of corporate finance, own their beats, pitch ideas, and pursue ambitious stories based on source building, keen observations and industry knowledge. Successful candidates will chase down scoops, juggle daily and longer-term deadlines, and develop and write stories that capture the impact of economic, regulatory, and technology trends on the CFO role.
The ideal candidate will be well-sourced with finance chiefs and the adjacent industry professionals that work with them.
What you’ll do:
- The CFO.com reporter will regularly write stories that drive our coverage, with a focus on subject matter expertise, sourcing, and writing voice that engages finance executives.
- Monitor your beat, regularly pitch stories, cultivate relationships with diverse stakeholders and hunt down scoops.
Required Experience and Skills:
- 2+ years experience, with at least some experience in corporate finance or related reporting.
- Proven track record of reporting and writing in the various areas of corporate finance (financial reporting, treasury, tax, regulations, compliance, and risk).
- Interest in issues that most concern CFOs, including technology disruption, the changing finance workforce, and executive career growth.
- Ability to interpret and analyze complex macroeconomic trends, corporate financial position and leadership responsibility – and to connect the dots to highlight the CFO’s ability to capitalize on opportunities while mitigating business risks.
- Ability to quickly take ownership of specific beats through original reporting and building relationships with important and diverse sources.
- Working knowledge of digital publishing KPIs and how to maximize reporting impact with a highly selective executive audience.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced news environment; deadline-oriented time management skills and ability to turn around stories on tight deadlines.
- Experience writing web headlines and editing copy.
- Familiarity with newsletter publishing operations and objectives.
- Bachelor’s degree or better in journalism, English or related field.
