Position Title: Senior Associate, Communications
Reports to: Senior Manager, Communications

Salary Range: $58,000 - $65,000
Location: Washington, D.C. or Remote
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Senior Associate role will have the exciting opportunity to help NASTAD achieve its mission by ensuring that our highest-impact communications reaches the right audiences, tells the most important stories, and inspires the best calls to action. This communications role focuses on Policy and Legislative Affairs (PLA), ensuring the PLA team has access to best communications practices, tools, and resources. The Senior Associate will execute core communications activities, including copy writing/editing, graphic design, video editing, event planning, and maintaining back-end platforms for websites, social media, and email marketing.
This role combines strategic content creation with administrative back-end support to ensure important work is delivered efficiently and effectively. The role reports to the Senior Manager, Communications with a dotted-line relationship to the Director, Policy & Legislative Affairs.
Essential Duties
- Ensure organization web-based platforms (websites, blogs, newsletters) are up-to-date, including coalition sites.
- Assist in design, formatting, and publishing of communications products (membership, board engagement).
- Draft content for weekly Policy Newsletter.
- Assist with scheduling and tracking Hill visits.
- Attend Hill briefings and webinars to foster collaboration and create/record content.
- Create, curate, and schedule digital content for social media.
- Draft/edit copy for writing projects (opinion editorials, blogs).
- Ensure seamless conference/meeting experiences by updating agendas, adding content to mobile apps, coordinating with designers, and assisting with AV.
- Follow trends in emerging technologies, data collection, and social media.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
- Expert-level writing/editing skills for online communities.
- Strong project management, research, and organization skills.
- Strong design skills using Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s degree in public policy, journalism, marketing, or related field.
- Four years of digital communications experience preferred.
- At least one year of experience in public health or policy preferred.
- Experience with content management systems, email marketing tools, social media management tools, and basic HTML/CSS preferred.
- Experience with video editing software preferred.
