About Aquia Inc. Named the “#1 Best Remote Startup to Work For in 2025” by Built In, Aquia is a digital services firm specializing in cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, and compliance automation for the U.S. government. Founded by Veterans, we are passionate about making our country digitally capable and secure.
What You'll Do:
- Own the creation and delivery of plain-language content for the VA.gov disability benefits application and related tools within the OCTO Benefits Portfolio.
- Write, revise, and test user-facing content including form instructions, in-line guidance, error messages, alerts, and submission confirmations.
- Ensure all content aligns with VA.gov voice, tone, accessibility, and style standards—and meets the highest bar for clarity, compassion, and usability.
- Collaborate closely with designers, researchers, engineers, and fellow content designers to integrate content within prototypes and production-ready UI using tools like Figma.
- Use qualitative and quantitative research to inform content decisions, refine messaging, and address Veteran pain points.
- Partner with stakeholders and subject matter experts—including legal and policy teams—to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Actively contribute to content strategy discussions, checklists, documentation, and standards within the centralized content team.
- Advocate for content best practices and represent the Veteran perspective in all product conversations.
- Support iterative development by participating in agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years of experience in content design, UX writing, or content strategy for digital products.
- Demonstrated expertise in plain language, inclusive writing, and content accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1, Section 508).
- Experience designing content for complex, form-heavy applications or government services.
- Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and user research integration.
- Proficiency with design collaboration tools such as Figma and Mural.
- Excellent editorial judgment and attention to detail, especially when writing for users in sensitive or high-stakes situations.
- Ability to collaborate across disciplines and communicate the value of content design to diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on federal digital services, particularly for health or benefits platforms.
- Familiarity with the VA.gov style guide and VA.gov platform documentation.
- Background in working with policy or legal teams to create compliant yet user-friendly content.
- Personal connection to or empathy for the Veteran experience.
