Job Summary: The Senior Database Administrator supports the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory standards. This role maintains hardware platforms, operating systems, and connectivity within the NM IT environment.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Skills: Provides leadership in implementing RDBMS architecture for high availability, disaster recovery, and test systems using best practices. Maintains databases for space management, objects, and performance, ensuring data integrity. Conducts regular reviews of database, file structure, and security to identify areas for improvement. Reports findings and recommendations to management.
- Technical Skills (cont'd): Completes management-approved documentation for tests, implementations, upgrades, and conversions, including schedules and recovery plans. Monitors database space utilization, performs backups/restores, reorganizations, re-indexing, and compiles data as directed. Monitors and completes maintenance tasks, data integrity checks, performance tuning, and backups/recovery.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicates effectively (written and oral) with team members, other IS professionals, management, users, and vendors to ensure successful task completion. Communicates status updates on projects and problem resolutions to relevant parties. Manages customer interactions, including incident tickets, system evaluations, and service requests, offering alternatives when appropriate. Documents policies, procedures, standards, and methodologies as needed.
- Planning and Strategic Thinking: Develops logical project plans, including task timeframes and resource estimates, to assist the Database Manager. Proficiently utilizes project management software and tools for planning, problem resolution, change control, and quality control. Adheres to system implementation and problem resolution priorities set by the DBA Team and IS management. Identifies and evaluates new application/database products and tools, making purchase recommendations.
- Support Responsibilities: Resolves problems effectively to minimize disruptions and unplanned downtime. Analyzes issues, diagnoses problems, and determines resolutions, collaborating with other DBAs, Infrastructure, and Application teams as necessary. Escalates problems to leadership and vendors as needed. Documents all problem-solving steps for recurring problem resolution. Provides on-call coverage 24x7x365 on a rotating basis. Assists in Business/Disaster Recovery planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Relevant IT Certifications
- 7+ years of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- 5+ years of experience in the healthcare industry
