Full-Time Senior Software Engineer

You'll get to work on complex distributed systems and solve massive-scale problems centered on new payment flows, business and data solutions, cyber security, and B2C platforms.

Opportunity: Joining the FX Core team at Currencycloud, part of Visa Direct/VXBS (Visa-Cross-Border-Solutions), creating software for frictionless currency exchange in a complex market. Work with experienced engineers, improving FX capabilities.

1. Contribute to the next generation trading platform, scaling software for high-volume transactions (frequently £1bn+ and millions of quotes).
2. Design, build, and maintain core FX trading capabilities, abstracting foreign exchange market intricacies under a simple API.
3. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, influencing wider company architecture.
4. Work alongside QA engineers maintaining automated testing scenarios.

Basic Qualifications

• Relevant work experience with a Bachelor's Degree, Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building microservices with Scala and Java.
• Proficient in other programming languages (e.g., Java or Ruby).
• Working knowledge of relational databases (e.g., MySQL or Postgres).
• Experience with event-based and streaming solutions using Kafka.
• Experience building applications in Kubernetes.
• Strong SQL knowledge, ability to write complex queries.

Technical Skills

• Competent in functional and non-functional programming.
• Understanding of concurrency programming models, especially under JVM.
• Experience with building distributed systems.
• Ability to conduct thoughtful code reviews, read other programming languages.
• Producing technical documentation in written and visual form.
• Experience using libraries such as cats, cats-effect, doobie, http4s is an advantage.
• Experience with Spring Boot is an advantage.
