Responsibilities
This is a full-time remote position within the United States. Incumbent must live within the United States, preferably within travel distance to Mayo Clinic's Arizona campus.
The Mayo Clinic Cloud AI team is seeking a highly motivated, experienced Software Engineer to join the team. In this role you will build, deploy, and operate AI and Machine Learning solutions derived from Mayo Clinic's AI Innovation Hub. Individuals with experience in AI/ML with demonstrated skill implementing scalable software on Google Cloud Platform are strongly desired.
The Software Engineer will design and build back-end services that support our portfolio of data-centric clinical and analytic applications. These applications leverage cloud computing, big data, mobile, data science, data warehousing, machine learning using state of the art software development applications and frameworks. Our Software Engineers ensures that these cloud-based micro-services adhere to uptime and accuracy targets, are resilient, and scale as data volumes and traffic increase. They work closely with the data engineering, platform, and solutions teams to develop applications as required to benefit our practice and patients.
Works closely with the Product Owners, Product Managers, Architects to translate requirements into code. Developing services around data warehousing, big data, cloud computing, business intelligence, analytics and machine learning. Participate in DevOps, Agile, continuous development and integration frameworks. Programming in high-level languages such as Go, Python, Java etc. Work on deployment automation/configuration management with tools including but not limited to ADO, Puppet, Chef or Ansible or Azure Pipelines, CloudFormation, Terraform following a DevOps model. Ensure all appropriate documentation of processes and source code is created and maintained. Communicate effectively with peers, leaders, and customers throughout the organization. Participate in expert level troubleshooting and resolve problems through root cause analysis, data and system investigation. Continues to build knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Performs a range of mainly straightforward assignments. Uses prescribed guidelines or policies to analyze and resolve problems. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction.
Position Responsibilities:
- Leverage machine learning techniques such as deep learning, natural language processing, computer vision, large language models, to lead the design, development, testing and deployment of machine learning and deep learning models for healthcare applications.
- Work on the full spectrum of the AI life cycle from ideation to production.
- Leverage advanced techniques in AI/ML to analyze vast amounts of healthcare data, including patient records, medical imaging, and genomic information, to develop AI solutions that meet clinical needs and integrated smoothly into clinical processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support the engineering and implementation of AI/ML solutions.
- Develop robust machine learning pipelines to support production processes and setting new benchmarks for safety and effectiveness in clinical settings.
- Facilitate consistent and automated AI software solution development and releases through the design, testing, and maintenance of tools and associated CI/CD pipelines.
- Contribute to implementing the best practices and standards for AI development and deployment methodologies, tools, and platforms.
- Contribute to developing new AI methods and technologies (Generative AI) that can advance the state-of-the-art in healthcare AI.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field; Or an Associates' degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field with an additional 2 years of experience as described below.
- Minimum 2 years of developing solutions with Python
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform and containerization (Docker)
- Experience developing software for healthcare related industries.
- Experience with modern application development frameworks
- Experience with distributed systems, storage systems, and databases
- Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (Terraform)
- Experience with Agile software development techniques.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. Deep hands-on technical expertise, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Adept at working collaboratively within a team environment to accomplish goals
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Google Cloud Platform Certification
- Ability to use a wide variety of open-source technologies and cloud-based services.
- Experience with medical imaging systems and data formats (PACS, DICOM)
- Experience in databases, analytics, big data systems or business intelligence products
- Experience with building high-performance, highly available and scalable distributed systems.
- Experience applying software solutions in production environments, highlighting an understanding of technology landscapes.
- Working knowledge of cloud infrastructure and software development tools.
- Experience working with large, complex, and heterogeneous data sets, preferably in healthcare.
- Familiarity with AI/ML techniques and frameworks.
- Familiarity with best practices in data engineering, data science, and MLOps communities.
- Strong curiosity in AI/ML techniques and frameworks, such as deep learning, natural language processing, and Generative AI, with familiarity with tools like Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, sci-kit-learn and Keras.
