Timmons Group is seeking a Substation Physical Engineer III to join their Electrical Design Group in Charlotte, NC.
Responsibilities include preparing substation project design, studies, and technical documents.
The candidate will lead the project design team, provide supervisory direction for the design and layout drawing production (general arrangement plans, conduit, cabling, fencing, grounding, control building layouts, wiring diagrams, schematics, and specifications for procurement and construction). Essential duties include developing scopes of work, conceptual designs, execution plans, engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules, physical substation design (yard layouts, plans, details, grounding plan, lightning protection, control building, exterior raceway systems, and bills of material), arrangement of substation structure elements, equipment and foundations, section views and detail drawings for structures, equipment and bus work installation drawings, ground grid design plans, system sizing studies, calculations for studies (grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination), equipment specifications for procurement and factory acceptance testing, and coordinating design activities with other departments.
The successful candidate will also provide guidance, mentoring, and meet/correspond with clients, and provide short term field support during construction.
Skills/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (accredited program).
- Minimum 7 years related experience (Master's degree in related field may substitute one year of experience).
- Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
- Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE/ANSI Standards.
- Knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
