SummaryThe Wikimedia Foundation seeks a collaborative technical lead to oversee the maintenance, development, and enhancement of Wikidata's query platform. This platform supports one of the world's largest open linked databases, crucial for Wikipedia's structure and contributor activities, impacting billions.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of Wikidata's query platform architecture.
- Collaborate with the Staff Product Manager to deploy platform services and features.
- Ensure stability, performance, and scalability of the Wikidata Query Service (WDQS) architecture and data pipeline.
- Develop new query methods, APIs, algorithms, and indexing strategies to optimize graph search.
- Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to design system requirements and ship iterative improvements.
- Maintain knowledge of structured knowledge representation technologies.
- Drive team goals, or communicate pivots when needed.
- Develop best practices for platform query services.
- Perform data analysis for insights and patterns.
Skills and Experience:
- 8+ years building and scaling API-driven data platform products.
- 4+ years data engineering experience in production deployments.
- Deep understanding of database and knowledge graph technologies.
- Proficiency in Java, C++, or other relevant languages.
- Experience navigating privacy-sensitive data and security best practices.
- Proven ability to break down complex projects into clear tasks.
- Familiarity with scalable data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka).
