Job Summary:
We are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Telecoms Design Engineer to support the planning, design, and development of telecommunications infrastructure. This role involves creating high-quality technical designs for telecom systems—such as fiber optic, copper, and wireless networks—ensuring they meet performance, regulatory, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design telecommunications networks including fiber optics, copper, and wireless systems for both greenfield and upgrade projects.
- Prepare and review technical drawings, schematics, layouts, and design documentation using CAD/GIS tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Visio, MicroStation).
- Develop detailed design packs including route planning, equipment placement, and infrastructure specifications.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, health and safety regulations, and local planning guidelines.
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and network assessments.
- Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
- Assist in the preparation of bills of materials (BOM), cost estimates, and procurement specifications.
- Provide technical support during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Keep up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience in telecoms infrastructure design (fiber, wireless, copper, or mixed technologies).
- Proficiency in CAD and GIS tools used for telecom network design.
- Solid understanding of telecommunications principles, standards (e.g., ITU, IEEE), and regulations.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and documentation skills.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certifications such as RCDD, CCNA, or equivalent.
- Experience with FTTP, FTTC, 5G, or microwave systems design.
- Knowledge of telecom planning software (e.g., Smallworld, QGIS, MapInfo).
- Understanding of civil engineering considerations for telecoms (e.g., trenching, pole loading, ducting)
