Full-Time Voice and Data Communications Engineer

Ashburn Consulting is teaming up with WMATA to provide robust IT services for their internal workforce. The position requires expertise in telecommunications, network architecture, vendor integration, and strategic analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

• Evaluating existing communications systems and technological alternatives.
• Engineering and implementing communication interfaces.
• Recommending technology platforms and architectures.
• Providing Tier 3 customer support.
• Specifying and evaluating service provider options and cost modeling.
• Developing unique service capabilities to meet WMATA's needs.
• Remediating billing discrepancies and carrier obligations.
• Tracking service implementations and delivery.
• Brokering vendor meetings for service compliance.
• Interfacing with service providers for optimal support.
• Possessing high-level knowledge of multi-carrier service architectures, pricing, and support systems.
• Developing project management plans, including task identification, resource estimations, and risk management.
• Developing Voice integration fail-over test plans and results.
• Creating detailed process flows for data interfaces and application updates.
• Developing risk management plans and recommendations to mitigate potential deployment barriers.
• Creating detailed voice engineering design documents, including network designs and configurations, along with installation cost estimates.
• Essential Skills and Experience:
• Experience designing and implementing IP telephony systems.
• Understanding of network infrastructure, protocols (IMS, IP), and VoIP protocols (MPLS, BGP, SIP).
• Knowledge of latest-generation routers, switches, and ancillary equipment.
• Exceptional written and communication skills.
• Project management experience in a client service environment.
• Proficiency in formal project management methods and internal/external communication.
• Demonstrated ability to project timing and costs across different project types.
• Recent experience designing communications networks for public transit.
• Minimum 15 years of voice/data network engineering, business, and architecture.
• Minimum 10 years of project management experience.
• Master's degree in Telecommunications preferred.
• Experience performing billing audits and developing management reports.
