Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Finance stakeholders and support the finance team’s data functions which could range from developing and updating complex SQL queries/reports and performing data analysis and deriving important financial metrics.
- Work in conjunction with our Data Engineering team to discover opportunities for improvements in our data pipelines and develop solutions to automate existing data transfer processes.
- Become an expert in Octane’s financial data models to help stakeholders access key data on loan applications and originations, loan performance with speed and ease.
- Support the adoption of data discoverability tools like Atlan and data visualization tools like Tableau (no prior experience required).
- Create and maintain data dictionaries / data catalogs for data tables (which we use to help stakeholders understand definitions and examples).
- Champion a fast paced, data-driven, test-and-learn culture with your knack for telling stories with data.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree, ideally in a quantitative field such as applied math, statistics, econometrics, or engineering; or similar bootcamp experience.
- 1-2 years experience working at a finance or technology company doing data analysis, comparable experience in an analytical sector, or related Master’s degree.
- Familiar with database systems like AWS Redshift / Athena or equivalents (ability to query large datasets from varying sources).
- Proficiency with basic/mid level Excel a plus.
- Hands-on experience writing SQL queries is a must.
Preferred Skills / Nice to haves:
- You can speak to and are comfortable with working in multiple types of databases and SQL dialects.
- You are familiar with cloud-based data environments.
- Experience leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS) technologies for data-related initiatives is a plus.
- Programming experience in Python and Tableau a plus but not required.
- You have the ability to recognize data patterns and understand when a particular field or table is not in line with business expectations.
- Able to thrive working in ambiguity.
- Comfortable working autonomously, in a fast-paced environment and have a knack for problem solving with and empathetic outlook.
