The Data Engineering Manager will work closely with leaders across marketing, recruitment, student services and finance to support and implement high-quality, data-driven decisions and technologies that optimize the student experience.
They will establish and deliver a data and analytics strategy and roadmap, supporting strategic initiatives by providing analysis services, statistical and predictive models, data visualization and reporting systems.
The Data Engineering Manager will apply their extensive knowledge of information design and data analysis to solving real-world problems with a hands-on approach while building and mentoring a team to meet the demand for data services, business insights, and execution of the strategic analytics roadmap.
Responsibilities include:
- Use hands-on advanced data modeling and analysis techniques to actively monitor, identify, analyze and discover insights that will guide strategic decisions and uncover business and student experience optimization opportunities.
- Regularly analyze data, and the outcome of analytics related projects, interpreting and reporting results to stakeholders in leadership, and functional teams.
- Manage the business’s data warehouse, system-to-system integration processes, analysis services models, operational reporting platform, and related technologies.
- Define and deliver a data and analytics strategy and roadmap, supporting strategic initiatives by providing analysis services and developing key operational data services – including predictive models, visualizations and dashboards, and automated operational reporting systems.
- Recruit, mentor and develop high-performing analytics team members including Data Analysts, Data Engineers and Data Scientists.
- Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure proper adherence to and governance of engineering, security, productivity, and privacy standards.
- Oversee the implementation and on-going improvement of quality control processes to ensure engineered data and integration services meet quality standards.
- Successfully engage in and manage multiple initiatives and projects simultaneously.
Education: Minimum BA Degree, preferably in a Computer Science, Technology, Mathematics or Statistics related discipline
Experience: 7+ years of data analytics experience with a proven history of launching successful data and analytics initiatives, drawing insights from data, and influencing successful outcomes for customers and business stakeholders
5+ years of experience developing and implementing predictive or analytical models, data visualizations, dashboards, data automation and reporting systems
5+ years of leading data analytics teams and projects
Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of Microsoft database, data analytics, and related engineering technologies required – such as SQL, TSQL, Azure, Data Factory, Fabric, ML
Experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI, Synapse, Analysis Services, or Fabric – or equivalent (ex. Tableau)
Experience with Microsoft Azure engineering patterns and resources – including Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Storage Accounts, and Web Apps
Experience with the Microsoft Power Platform – Power BI, Power Automate, Flows
Experience with Microsoft Azure security and provisioning tools – Key Vault, Managed Identity, and IAM
Experience and proficiency programming in Python, Java, or C#
Experience with predictive analytics platforms, software, languages and libraries such as Azure ML, SAS, Python, or R
