Summary: The Director of Systems Engineering leads a team ensuring the reliability, scalability, and security of Intellum's platform. They define the technical vision for system operations, monitoring, and automation, enhancing developer productivity. This role is hands-on, overseeing system architecture, technical strategy, and aligning engineering efforts with company objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Define and implement technical vision for platform operations, monitoring, and alerting, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with growth strategy.
- Drive innovation and efficiency through automation, infrastructure as code, and optimized CI/CD pipelines.
- Oversee system design and architecture for scalability, security, and best cloud practices.
- Lead and mentor the Systems Engineering team, conducting performance assessments and fostering technical growth.
- Ensure high availability of critical systems through incident management and 24/7 support.
- Improve developer experience by enhancing tools and infrastructure.
- Establish and enforce coding, testing, and quality control standards.
- Manage the subdepartment budget, strategically allocating resources and tools.
- Collaborate with security, development, and sales teams for compliance, resource efficiency, and customer support.
- Define and track KPIs, proactively addressing improvement areas, and aligning technical efforts with organizational objectives.
- Stay current with industry trends through research and development, identifying opportunities for innovation.
Required Skills:
- 8+ years hands-on experience in engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles, building scalable, reliable, and secure systems.
- 5+ years leadership experience managing systems engineering teams.
- Proven expertise in system architecture, performance optimization, and security for complex SaaS environments.
- Proficiency in cloud computing (AWS/GCP), Linux administration, and infrastructure automation (Docker/Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).
- Experience with incident response, troubleshooting, architecture, and design discussions.
- Strong programming skills (Ruby or Python).
- Excellent leadership, collaboration, and communication skills.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with a data-driven approach.
Preferred Skills:
- Background in Learning Management Systems.
- Experience managing infrastructure across multiple cloud providers.
- Proficiency in Mac OS.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and compliance.
