Financial Accountant

Assists the Head of Finance and Operations team with daily finance operations.

1. Ensures accurate and up-to-date financial records.
2. Provides data for informed decision-making.
3. Assists in building a scalable, efficient, and successful finance function.

Responsibilities:

• Bookkeeping: Maintains financial records using journals, ledgers, and accounting software.
• Accounts Payable: Processes supplier invoices, verifies expenses, and prepares timely payments.
• Accounts Receivable: Issues customer invoices, tracks receivables, and follows up on overdue payments.
• Bank Reconciliation: Reconciles bank statements with general ledger accounts.
• Month-End Close: Prepares journal entries, accruals, and prepayments for month-end closing.
• Financial Reporting: Assists in preparing financial statements (profit and loss, balance sheets, cash flow statements).
• VAT Returns: Calculates and submits VAT returns to HMRC.
• Expense Management: Reviews employee expense reports, ensures compliance, and processes reimbursements.
• Audits: Supports internal and external audits, prepares schedules, gathers documentation, and addresses auditor inquiries.
• Ad Hoc Financial Analysis: Assists with financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Compliance: Maintains compliance with accounting regulations (UK GAAP or IFRS).
• Communication: Collaborates with colleagues and other departments.
• Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to streamline processes and enhance internal controls.
• Software Proficiency: Utilizes accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
• Professional Development: Seeks continuous learning and development.

Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in finance or related field + 2 years post-qualification experience.
• Big 4 background or equivalent.
• Knowledge of UK tax law and HMRC.
• Knowledge of IFRS.
• Strong numerical skills.
• Ability to collaborate with all levels of management.
• Proficiency in financial management software (Xero, MS Excel).
• Beneficial: Experience in blockchain (Ethereum), crypto, Fintech, in-house accounting in a start-up environment, fully remote work experience, knowledge of US GAAP.
