We are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Tax Assistant to join the team looking after the firm's own partners. The role encompasses preparing partner and partnership tax returns, ensuring compliance with relevant tax laws and regulations, and assisting with all partner-related tax matters, including opportunities to draft advice to individual partners.
This role can be based in London or elsewhere in the UK, with the requirement to be in a Private Client Tax team office to collaborate with colleagues 2-3 times a week.
As a Partner Tax Assistant, your responsibilities will include:
- Tasks related to completion of tax returns for individuals and LLPs including, but not limited to drafting returns to a high standard, prioritizing and managing own workload, organization of source data and preparing accurate and clear working papers;
- Highlighting technical points which require additional consideration by senior colleagues;
- Assisting in annual review of partner tax reserving and calculation of adjustments;
- Assist in preparation of partner tax payment instructions;
- Client administration to ensure all files are kept in good order and trackers are up to date;
- Ensuring all controls, such as review sheets are complied with and appropriately filed;
- Assisting with budgeting and billing process;
- Assisting in assessing risk, implementing controls and maintaining up-to-date procedure notes;
- Ad hoc projects as required for the group and for individual partners.
Professional Qualifications and Education:
Strong relevant academic background or experience and/or Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CA/Equivalent) and/or Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) / Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA). Part qualified considered, depending on experience.
To be successful in this role, you should:
- Experience within Professional Services and/or Financial Services;
- Personal tax return preparation experience – essential;
- Technical knowledge of private client tax, including income tax, capital gains tax and at least basic inheritance tax – essential;
- Knowledge of partnership tax desirable, but not essential if willing to develop in these areas and you can demonstrate ability to assimilate new information;
- IT literate, especially tax return software, Excel and Word;
- Willing to learn and adapt to new legislation and practices;
- Good planning and organizing skills, to ensure that all deadlines are met and that all data received is properly processed;
- Client focused and a team player.
