The Why: The QA Lead is responsible for leading the quality assurance team in testing and ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of software applications. This role involves designing test strategies, managing QA resources, implementing best practices, and working closely with development and product teams to maintain high-quality standards.
The What and How:
- Mentoring and Shift-left - Bring your fresh, hands-on skills and approach to leading a QA function moving through considerable change. Management of multiple stakeholders; QA engineers are distributed across seven different teams across the business. Each with their own unique projects, needs and challenges.
- Support and lead the QA Process across the business, develop and drive the adoption of strategies and best practice.
- QA Mastery and Automation - Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive test plans, test cases, and test scripts for functional, performance, and regression testing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, product management, and DevOps, to integrate quality at all stages of the software development lifecycle.
- Establish and enforce QA best practices, standards, and processes within the team.
- Monitor software development processes to ensure adherence to company and industry quality standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis of defects and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Leadership - To ensure that service delivery is achieved, effectively lead people management initiatives for the team through honest and constructive performance and development conversations, and regular team meetings that engage the team and provide the context they need to succeed. Role model and ensure your team's work and behaviours are consistently aligned to our organisational goals and principles, through ensuring that direct reports deliver great outcomes through having individual goals and the development, support and opportunity to achieve these.
Your Skills and Experience:
- Previous experience mentoring Quality Engineers in the desire to shift-left alongside developers.
- Ability to work with a range of senior stakeholders and achieve buy-in for QA processes and changes.
- Strong demonstrated experience in software quality assurance, with demonstrated experience in a leadership role.
- Strong experience with manual and automated testing methodologies.
- Knowledge of test automation tools (e.g., Playwright, XCUITest (iOS), Espresso (Android)) and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript) is advantageous; but not ideal.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as GitLab.
- Experience with performance and security testing tools (e.g., JMeter, OWASP) is a plus.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
