WSP is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join the Water Infrastructure and Design Division within the Mine Engineering Business Unit. This person will be responsible for the design, drawing and construction monitoring of infrastructure projects.
The duties and responsibilities include:
- Pipeline and ancillary design (e.g., scour, air valve, pipe supports etc.)
- Pump station design (e.g., pump sizing, suction, discharge pipework configuration etc.)
- Pipeline hydraulic modeling (e.g., pipeline sizing, water hammer, ensuring compliance with relevant design codes etc.)
- Open channel flow hydraulics
- Storm water designs
- Earthworks modeling in Civil 3D (e.g., stormwater drainage, platform and road layouts)
- Planning, engineering design work with input to construction as required and directed by Project Leaders or Engineers
- Preparing cost estimates
- Ensuring all designs and drawings are properly documented and checked
- Construction administration skills advantageous
- Attending site and other meetings
- Achieving minimum financial productivity on all projects
- Implementing systems for good record-keeping (files, reports, drawings, construction dates etc.)
- Liaising with other staff
- Assisting with contract administration (certificates and as-built drawings, construction dates etc.)
- Ensuring suitability of technical proposals
- Compiling letters, reports and tender documentation
- Providing service excellence
- Complying with Quality Management System
- Contributing to sector efficiency and effectiveness
The candidate must be able to undertake and review associated works designs, demonstrate sound technical knowledge of contract and construction procedures, and demonstrate highly specialized design.
The position is head office based, but the successful candidate must be prepared to travel extensively within South Africa and the African Continent to manage projects and engage in client and other meetings.

Additional Requirements: Own Vehicle, Valid Driver's License, Valid Passport, BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil/Mechanical Engineering, Minimum 8-10 years' experience, Professional Registration (advantageous), Civil 3D and AutoCAD (advantageous), Minimum 6 years' experience with pipeline, pump station, and stormwater design, Project and engineering management experience (advantageous), KY-Pipe, EPANET, PC SWWM, HEC-RAS, or Bentley simulation software (advantageous), MS Office Suite (advanced).
