Job Details
Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be a member of our growing Forensic Architecture and Engineering practice.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to consult clients, perform examinations, testing, and analysis, and prepare clear, concise, efficient engineering reports.
Provide technical and project management leadership in geotechnical investigations. Projects range from national to international scale.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate geotechnical and construction failures (shallow and deep foundations, soil slopes, dams, foundations, pipelines, retaining walls).
- Perform site examinations related to loss/failure.
- Review plans, specifications, and documents to ensure compliance with designs, guidelines, codes, and regulations.
- Assist in developing engineering drawings and simulations from data.
- Prepare technical reports communicating results ethically and unbiasedly.
- Communicate findings to clients in boardrooms, mediations, and trials.
- Manage projects according to client scopes, delivering reports and/or presentations on time and within budget.
- Provide litigation support and be expert witness in construction disputes.
- Develop, mentor junior staff.
- Participate in business development and market growth opportunities.
- Attend industry events and seminars, giving presentations.
- Develop understanding of firm values and strategic plan.
- Work independently or collaboratively with professionals globally.
Qualifications:
- Masters or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering
- Professional Engineering (PE) and Geotechnical Engineering (GE) license in California
- 10+ years experience in consulting/forensic engineering at a senior project management level, with international experience
- Strong geotechnical problem-solving skills
- Experience with shallow/deep foundations, soil/rock slopes, dams, foundations, and retaining walls
- Heavy commercial/industrial/civil infrastructure experience
- Valid driver's license and vehicle access
- Excellent presentation, communication, and technical writing skills
- Strong organizational and presentation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Flexibility with assignment and travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Consulting/forensic engineering experience
- PE license in other west coast states
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Travel to project sites and conduct field investigations
- Work in various weather conditions
- Able to climb, stand, walk, kneel, crouch for extended periods
