A successful Sr. Product Manager leads and manages a core business feature or multiple product areas within a brand. They excel at driving valuable product delivery, possessing a vision for their product area and an execution plan. They clearly articulate how their product roadmaps align with the brand product strategy and quantifiably impact customers.
This role owns the management of their roadmap, requiring a clear understanding of the reasoning behind each decision, while consulting their Brand Product Lead prior to significant roadmap changes.
Direct customer engagement (weekly) is crucial to understand industry trends, pain points, and how the product solves customer problems.
This role may or may not have managerial responsibilities but sets an example for exceptional product delivery and drives peer development. It's the most senior position focused solely on product delivery within a product area/business unit, excluding brand-wide responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Owns planning, vision, and implementation of features for core business or multiple product areas.
- Provides regular input on overall product strategy and team initiatives' alignment.
- Develops an understanding of the industry, including trends, technologies, and markets.
- Engages current and prospective customers to analyze needs and future plans.
- Establishes and aligns product roadmaps with the broader product strategy, balancing long-term investments, short-term wins, and tech debt.
- Mentors and/or manages product colleagues, developing key skillsets.
- Identifies areas of improvement and market opportunities.
- Engages internal stakeholders for product releases and supporting the public narrative.
- Provides clear product requirements for development teams.
- Manages and grooms the product backlog, ensuring tickets are ready for sprints.
- Engages sales, marketing, and customer support to capture feedback and ensure seamless delivery.
- Participates in the Scrum process and drives effective ceremonies (stand-ups, grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives).
- Identifies key success metrics and ties them to overall business metrics.
- Focuses on customer value and identifies MVP solutions with minimal time, effort, and risk.
- Identifies and communicates opportunities and risks to management.
- Contributes to customer-facing demos and sales/marketing initiatives.
- Identifies and eliminates low-value work for the agile team.
- Collaborates with design, research, and development to address customer pain points and effective problem-solving.
