Position Overview: As a Senior Technical Artist, you'll collaborate closely with art, engineering, and design to bring the artistic vision to life in the engine using cutting-edge tech while maintaining performance standards. This is an excellent opportunity to significantly impact the visual quality and technical excellence of our AAA title(s).
Responsibilities:
- Leverage Technical and Environment Art expertise to amplify the creative output of the development team.
- Design and implement efficient art pipelines and workflows (preferably within Unreal 5 PCG) for creating, integrating, and iterating art assets.
- Establish and maintain best practices for asset optimization, performance, and memory management for smooth gameplay across platforms.
- Utilize modern tools for creating modular, performant, and game-ready content.
- Collaborate with Art, Engineering, and Design to develop areas of development and create prototype assets.
- Work with the tools team to enhance artist-friendly tools for increased efficiency and quality.
- Foster communication and collaboration between art and engineering teams.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Art, Graphic Design, Game Design, or a related field.
- 6+ years experience as a senior artist in a game studio.
- In-depth knowledge of game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine), their scripting languages, and editor tools.
- Proficiency in 3D art software (e.g., Maya, 3ds Max) and real-time rendering techniques.
- Proficiency in Substance Tools (Designer & Painter) and PBR workflows.
- Proficiency with Zbrush and Maya (or other 3D modeling tools).
- Familiarity with shader programming languages (e.g., HLSL, GLSL) and shader creation/optimization.
- Understanding of Environment Art's impact on Level Design.
- Strong communication skills to articulate design concepts.
- Self-directed work to push visual boundaries and inspire.
- Collaborative team player providing constructive feedback.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on and shipping AAA titles (MMO experience is a plus).
- Understanding of next-generation asset creation workflows.
- Proficiency with industry-standard software (Photoshop, Houdini, etc.).
- Advanced in-game lighting skills.
- Environment VFX creation experience.
- Passion for gaming (especially MMOs), industry trends, and player expectations.
- Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability to new technologies/workflows/ideas.
- Houdini experience for real-time procedural content generation.
Salary:USD $110,000 - $180,000 / CAD $100,000 - $170,000
