Job Summary

Kruze Consulting, a firm providing accounting, bookkeeping, finance, payroll, and tax services to startups, is seeking a Controller.

Responsibilities

1. Prepare and analyze financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements).
2. Generate comprehensive financial reports for management and stakeholders.
3. Maintain general ledger integrity: record, reconcile, analyze transactions, and finalize ledger entries.
4. Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
5. Build and maintain client relationships (primary point of contact for financial matters).
6. Support client due diligence (audits, fundraising, M&A).
7. Monitor, analyze, and report on key financial metrics, trends, and variances.
8. Provide financial insights and recommendations for client strategic planning and decision-making.
9. Perform ad hoc assignments related to client needs.
10. Create and implement client-specific procedures to maintain financial accuracy.
11. Support the Kruze Tax Team (State & Local compliance, Sales & Use Tax Reporting, year-end books).
12. Mentor and coach junior accounting staff.
13. Review, evaluate, and provide feedback to junior staff.
14. Collaborate with Quality Assurance on junior staff development.
15. Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements (maintain compliance documentation).
16. Assess internal controls (risk assessments and reviews).
17. Submit, approve, and track maintenance projects.
18. Review and invoice clients for consulting projects.
19. Monitor billable hours.
20. Attend required training and internal meetings.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, 8+ years corporate accounting experience, multi-client accounting experience, strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, cost control, advanced bookkeeping and accounting best practices, U.S. GAAP, laws, standards, state/national regulations, QuickBooks Online (certification a plus), advanced MS Excel and Google Sheets proficiency, strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, meticulous attention to detail, ability to work with urgency, fast-paced, varied tasks, love of rapidly changing technology/software.
• Preferred: CPA license or progress towards/eligibility, Master's degree in Accounting, experience in fully remote people-centric cultures, experience in high-growth/startup/entrepreneurial environments, experience in SaaS accounting, startup equity accounting, startup revenue accounting, experience with tech-forward accounting platforms (Expensify, Bill.com, Stripe, Gusto), experience with newer systems/platforms.

Compensation

$100,000 - $125,000 per year
