Job purpose
The Dental Billing Professional supports the Revenue Cycle Lead in operations, strategic planning, billing workflow management, financial counseling, and other projects as needed. In addition, the Dental Billing Professional is responsible for maintaining excellent customer service standards and seeking process improvement workflows. The Dental Billing Professional will act as the liaison between patients and their insurance companies, often coordinating payments and answering questions from both parties, and will handle financial obligations so that patients and physicians can focus on healthcare. This position will also be required to manage dental collections.
Duties and responsibilities
- Protect patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
- Coordinate and perform Presumptive Eligibility (PE) interviews and financial counseling with Patient Service Representatives and patients.
- Coordination, preparation, and implementation of billing protocols, payment plans, and collections status, including special programs, hospital billing, etc.
- Coordinate with the billing company regarding claim denial analysis and procedures to reduce future denials.
- Review out-of-network insurances and make recommendations regarding credentialing.
- Review and make recommendations regarding patient write-off accounts with the billing coordinator.
- Review patient credit balances, prepare credit notices to patients monthly, and ensure unclaimed property filings are prepared annually according to Kansas unclaimed property regulations.
- Oversee the preparation of statements and patient collections.
- Prepare, compile, and mail patient bills and invoices.
- Verify discrepancies reported by clients, and resolve their billing issues.
- Generate financial statements and process payments.
- Offer guidance and support to Patient Service Representatives (PSRs) and billing staff to ensure accuracy, resolving inconsistencies as needed.
- Locate or assist in locating hard-to-reach patients.
- Provide customer support to customers with disputes or inquiries concerning invoices or the billing process.
- Initiate E Clinical Works (eCW) support tickets as they relate to billing issues.
- Guide employee actions by researching, developing, writing, and updating billing policies, procedures, methods, and guidelines in coordination with the COO and CFO.
- Ensure encounters are closed out/signed off for billing (chart lock report).
- Participate in meetings involving billing processes and protocols as requested.
- Ensure all processes for closing eCW are performed timely after month-end.
- Utilize current technology to drive efficiencies while researching future needs.
- Handle dental collections, following up on outstanding balances and coordinating with patients to arrange payment.
- Follow OSHA practices, policies, and procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or suitable equivalent required
- Bachelor’s Degree in economics, mathematics, business administration, accounting, finance, healthcare business related fields or statistics preferred
- Training/experience in Healthcare, billing and customer service recommended
- Proficient compute knowledge, with ability to utilize new and emerging technology to streamline processes
- 2+ years of work experience in customer service or related fields
- Proficient knowledge of medical terminology, billing practices, and coding
- Proficient with MS Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficient mathematical skills

Details
- Schedule: Full-time exempt- Monday-Friday, 8AM – 5PM CST (minimum of 40 hours per week)
- Schedule may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed to allow for completion of expected duties of the position
