The Linux Foundation is seeking a Director of Marketing Communications to craft and execute strategic marketing initiatives that bolster exciting open-source projects. This role will be instrumental in leading marketing and communications strategies, especially for the OpenSearch project, fostering engagement, adoption, and awareness.
This individual will develop the OpenSearch marketing framework, supervise a marketing and communications team, and collaborate closely with leadership, the board, and the marketing committee.
Responsibilities Include:
- Managing the overall marketing team and budget for OpenSearch, including liaising with other Linux Foundation teams.
- Partnering with leadership and the VP of Business Development on campaigns supporting membership sales.
- Creating and maintaining audience personas to guide content development (user stories, tutorials, case studies, webinars, white papers, newsletters, presentations).
- Understanding and utilizing developer marketing strategies to effectively communicate with developers through various channels and events.
- Collaborating on messaging for both business and technical audiences.
- Developing and executing community marketing strategies.
- Generating leads for member sales through marketing activity and organizing hand-offs to the sales team.
- Defining and implementing top, middle, and bottom-of-funnel activities to boost membership, event tickets, and community growth.
- Tracking and reporting on marketing metrics.
- Supervising marketing and communications teams (internal and external) for flawless execution.
- Co-leading the OpenSearch marketing committee and nurturing member engagement through trust-building.
- Traveling internationally to support project events and meetings.
- Mentoring and developing junior marketing staff.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 12-15 years of marketing and communications experience in technical environments.
- Knowledge of OpenSearch and its ecosystem (full-text search, vector search, observability, analytics).
- Proven excellence in managing large-scale projects and cross-functional teams.
- Success in leading and executing marketing strategies, advancing goals and KPIs.
- Understanding of engaging and motivating technical communities.
- Proven success promoting and supporting software development products.
- Ability to influence and positively engage multiple internal teams.
- Experience with or understanding of the open-source software ecosystem.
- Degree in marketing, communications, computer science, or related field.
