Engineering Manager, Feature Engineering

Summary: The Wikimedia Foundation seeks an engineering manager to join the Feature Engineering department, reporting to Nat Baca.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with team and stakeholders to plan, prioritize, and delegate work, balancing project goals with technical requirements and team skillsets.
• Drive execution, ensuring projects stay on track, KPIs are met, and work is unblocked.
• Communicate proactively on progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.
• Ensure the engineering team is engaged, productive, and understands the project's impact.
• Coach team, conduct performance reviews, provide career guidance, and build a positive work culture.
• Manage risk and succession planning; document and implement lifecycle management and best practices.
• Interview, hire, onboard, and mentor engineers, making them productive team members.
• Participate in strategic direction-setting, team formation, and staffing.

Skills and Experience:

• 3-5 years of engineering management experience.
• Full-stack web development expertise.
• Experience working with engineering teams focused on user-facing web applications and services.
• Multicultural, distributed team experience.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal, English).
• Open-source development methodologies and community experience.
• Analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills.
• Comfort with evolving requirements.

Additional Skills (Desired):

• Wikipedia editing or Wikimedia community experience.
• MediaWiki familiarity.
• Web-scale deployments (JavaScript, PHP).
• Experience with remote team management.
• Managing large-scale global developer ecosystems.
