CD PROJEKT RED is seeking a Lead 3D Character Artist to support The Molasses Flood development studio. This role involves overseeing character creation for a new project within the Witcher universe.
You'll lead a team in modeling, texturing, and implementing characters, collaborating closely with the art director, animators, and designers to ensure alignment with the project's vision and gameplay requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and build a high-quality character art team.
- Manage team members, provide reviews, mentorship, and support their growth.
- Cultivate a positive team environment.
- Collaborate with production to establish plans and meet deadlines.
- Participate in recruitment and hiring.
- Collaborate with Art Director for artistic consistency.
- Participate in concept creation and game-defining character designs.
- Oversee final polish of character assets for seamless integration.
- Partner with animators, tech animators, and tech artists for dynamic performance.
- Work with graphics coders and tech artists to develop new techniques.
- Develop character workflows in collaboration with Tech Art.
- Optimize performance by understanding asset and technology trade-offs.
- Solve technical and aesthetic challenges in character creation.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the video game industry, with a shipped AAA title.
- Proven experience as a Lead Character Artist.
- Experience with stylized character art and visual consistency.
- Proficiency in modeling (3ds Max, Maya, Blender), sculpting (ZBrush), and PBR texturing (Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop).
- Unreal Engine 4/5 expertise.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, form, proportions, clothing, and materials.
- Understanding of PBR workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
Nice to Haves:
- Procedural content creation tools (e.g., Marvelous Designer, Houdini)
- Strong traditional art foundation and attention to detail
- Knowledge of rigging, skinning, and facial animation
