We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our team. This role involves managing billing and coding for victim services, including those related to domestic violence, substance abuse recovery, and other urgent needs. The specialist will ensure accurate and timely processing of medical claims, adherence to regulatory requirements, and collaboration with other support services.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately code medical procedures and services related to victim support, ensuring compliance with current coding guidelines and regulations.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies, Medicaid, Medicare, and other payers.
- Review and resolve billing issues and discrepancies, including claim denials and rejections.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of billing transactions and client interactions.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and PHI (Protected Health Information) protocols.
- Stay updated with changes in coding regulations, insurance policies, and healthcare laws.
- Collaborate with other service providers, including counselors, legal advisors, and healthcare professionals, to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
- Operate across state lines, adhering to state-specific regulations and requirements.
Requirements:
- Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, or equivalent).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing and coding, preferably in a healthcare or victim services setting.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and billing processes.
- Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, insurance billing, and other reimbursement methods.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Proficiency in using PHI-compliant systems and maintaining client confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work across state lines and navigate different state regulations.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with victim services, trauma-informed care, or related fields.
- Knowledge of insurance and reimbursement policies related to victim services.
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities.
