Overview

A Senior Accountant is responsible for daily, monthly, and annual accounting operations, such as maintaining subledgers, preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, investigating fluctuations, and preparing reports. These activities and processes support accurate and timely accounting and reporting of the Hospital's operations in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

This position is responsible for maintaining appropriate transaction level detail of accounting activities to support assigned general ledger account balances, as well as executing appropriate control activities to ensure the integrity of the data. The Senior Accountant will be assigned responsibilities related to more complex accounts and analytical skills. The Senior Accountant will encourage process improvement and identify lean processes and technology enhancements to minimize manual work.

Responsibilities

• Perform day-to-day assigned accounting sub-processes including: cash, non-patient billing, inventory, fixed assets, prepaid and accruals.
• Perform month-end duties timely and accurately for assigned entities and complex accounts. Includes preparing journal entries, analyzing variances, and preparing financial reports.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations timely that provide appropriate support for the balance. Ensure that reconciliations represent relevant data for the balance and are not just rollforwards.
• Prepares specialized analysis and documents fluctuation analysis (target, prior month, prior year) and completes complex accounting analysis of accounting processes or financial transactions. Documents findings, prepares related journal entries/reconciliations.
• Identify and recommend lean opportunities to implement process improvements and technology enhancements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required and 3-5 years experience OR Master's Degree and 1-2 years experience OR CPA and 1-2 years experience
• CPA (preferred)
