Contractor Senior Backend Engineer

Volatus Health is a well-funded startup focused on reproductive health technology. They're building a next-generation platform for fertility clinics.

We seek a Senior Backend Engineer experienced in building and shipping production backends with PostgreSQL.

Responsibilities:

• Designing and managing a high-performing, reliable, scalable, and secure data model using PostgreSQL.
• Integrating with external APIs and medical devices (e.g., Immunoassay, Ultrasound).
• Ensuring data security (e.g., encryption, authorization).
• Developing and implementing data security strategies (including encryption) and ensuring compliance with regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
• Implementing and maintaining testing strategies, database testing, and security audits to ensure reliability.
• Interacting with LLMs or other AI models.
• Collaborating with product, engineering, and design teams on technical decisions and strategy.
• Experience in integrating with medical devices and systems is a plus.
• Consideration for integrating with medical data such as HL7, FHIR.

Skills required:

• Strong PostgreSQL skills including data modeling, query performance, transactions, and triggers.
• API Integration experience with external APIs, data mapping, and ETL.
• Authorization experience (RBAC/ABAC).
• Data Security experience in production environments (encryption, etc.)
• Programming proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript and SQL.
• Experience with Node.js and/or Next.js
• Solid CS fundamentals.
• Experience with Supabase (Row Level Security and Realtime features, preferred)

Additional Skills (preferred):

• DevOps expertise, implementation experience, and uptime reliability.
• Medical data standards (HL7, FHIR, HIPAA compliance).
• AI training and customization.
• AWS experience.
• Python skills.
• Experience with backend workflow tools like Temporal.io or Airflow.
• React proficiency (NextJS)
• Voice activation, Speech-to-text, or Text-to-speech experience.

Compensation: $100k+
