Academic Medical Dosimetrist (AMD) Responsibilities:
Reflects NM's mission, vision, values, and adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program.
Provides optimum, accurate, and meaningful treatment plans for radiation oncology patients under Radiation Oncologist's guidance.
Develops creative treatment planning options and innovative techniques for optimization.
Coordinates with Radiation Oncologists, Medical Physicists, Nursing, and Therapists for patient care.
Provides learning opportunities for trainees and residents, and participates in clinical trials, research, and education.
Provides integrated clinical care and supports treatment planning & dosimetry across all modalities (3DCRT, IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, SBRT, IORT, LDR, HDR brachytherapy, Gamma knife, MR-Linac, etc.).
- Coordination: Coordinates with nursing and therapists for treatment simulation.
- Imaging: Understands and addresses imaging artifacts (motion, prosthesis).
- Anatomy: Contours normal structures with residents and Radiation Oncologists.
- Imaging Parameters: Understands imaging parameters and image fusion in MIM software.
- Treatment Planning: Expertise in Eclipse & Radformation software, including all modules.
- Dose Calculation: Understands dose calculation algorithms and Monitor Unit (MU) calculation accuracy.
- Team Communication: Communicates treatment plan implementation (setup, immobilization, bolus, compensators, wedges, field arrangements).
- Therapist Support: Supports therapists with DRR, kV, portal images, etc.
- Advanced Planning: Understands advanced treatment planning (beam modulation, smart plans).
- Special Procedures: Participates in special procedures (TBI, TSEI, HDR, etc.).
- Documentation: Prepares treatment plan documentation and transfers treatment fields.
- Equipment Knowledge: Knowledge of photon/electron blocks, bolus, treatment aids.
- Teaching: Participates in clinical and didactic teaching.
- Research: Active participation in clinical research and assists radiation oncology faculties.
- Clinical Trials: Serves as a resource for clinical trials.
- Billing: Accurate billing of patient codes.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in physical or biological sciences
- MDCB certification or board eligible (CMD certification within one year)
- Strong knowledge of physics, math, dosimetry, and computers
- Strong communication skills, initiative, and teamwork
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in relevant field
- Experience with specific software (Eclipse, Radformation, RadCalc, MOSAIQ, CRAD, MIM)
- Clinical teaching experience
- Publications/conference presentations
