Position Summary: The HIM Analyst I reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
This position supports Joint Compliance (JC), state and federal standards, NM Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and hospital policy pertaining to physician documentation assisting with accurate and timely patient documentation within the NM EMR
Supports HIPAA privacy standards, Exceptional Financial Performance relating to timeliness of clinical documentation for coding and billing purposes.
Assists in ensuring compliance with complete and accurate medical records according to Joint Commission (JC), State and Federal Standards, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and hospital policy.
Responsibilities:
- Analyzes and verifies accuracy of physician documentation in a timely manner to reflect the organizational requirements of a complete medical record.
- Maintains accuracy of NM physician documentation deficiency management application.
- Monitors compliance with physician required documentation.
- Serves as documentation compliance liaison between all departments.
- Collaborates with other staff and other healthcare professionals to obtain complete, timely and accurate medical records.
- Applies analytical and critical decision making skills to ensure accuracy of deficiency assignment.
- Updates deficiencies as needed to reflect accuracy.
- Serves as documentation expert for NM HIM Regulatory Management Division
- Serves as a resource for other HIM analysts
- Identifies patterns and trends for process improvement opportunities
- Provides feedback to management
- Works on projects as deemed necessary by management
Required:
- 3 years’ experience focused on deficiency analysis.
- Demonstration of medical terminology
- Demonstration of professional communication skills; oral and written
- Ability to work independently
- Adaptable to change and flexibility to adjust to the department needs
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask
- Strong computer skills; deficiency management, EMR and Microsoft applications
- Knowledge of Illinois Laws & JC, Medicare, CMS related to documentation requirements for medical records
- Demonstrates critical thinking and decision making skills
- Minimal travel for departmental meetings and training
Preferred:
- RHIT/RHIA credentials
- Epic Experience
