KEY ROLE:The role of the HR Officer is to support HR Business Partners in delivering professional, commercially astute HR services to the business. The HR Officer will support Business Partners with operational people issues, implement people solutions, and listen to/respond to employees.
The role will also support the People, Culture & Engagement team to ensure smooth delivery of a pro-active administrative and operational HR service to all South African offices, particularly in the area of recruitment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Employee Relations: prepare all relevant documentation, evidence, and supporting material for Disciplinary, Grievance, Absenteeism, and Redundancy processes. Facilitate the process, ensuring necessary arrangements, facilities, and equipment are in place, including arranging and supporting meetings (e.g., minute taker).
- General Life Cycle Activities: provide guidance on daily people activities (exit interviews, return to work interviews, family leave, flexible working requests) in accordance with Company procedures.
- Line Manager Guidance: support HR Advisors in creating bespoke, sensible, and practical guidance documents for Line Managers, ensuring relevance with changing legislation.
- Team Collaboration: collaborate, guide, and support the team in flawless execution of onboarding, employee variations, payroll, benefits, absence management, policy interpretation, and implementation.
- Recruitment Support: work alongside specialist teams (communication and L&D) to support training delivery and recruitment activities (e.g., job specifications, advertising, screening, interview support).
- Event Support: support bi-annual and annual events including career development engagement, salary reviews, benchmarking, and employee surveys.
- Proactive HR Service: provide proactive operational HR service to South Africa, deputizing for HR Business Partners in representing the HR function and supporting employees.
- Team Development: coach, mentor, guide, and influence the HR Administration team, developing their skills and knowledge to provide informed service, acting as a behavioral role model.
- Communication & Collaboration: act as a conduit for communication, sharing knowledge, ideas, and best practice across the HR function; support and promote teamwork.
- Countrywide Initiatives: support HR Business Partners with countrywide initiatives (efficiency improvement programs, acquisitions, restructuring, contract mobilizations/demobilizations, policy development, and implementation).

KEY COMPETENCIES AND GENERIC SKILLS:
- Awareness and basic understanding of generalist HR and implementation of statutory/company policies (family-friendly policies, discipline, grievance).
- Experience in building rapport, gaining credibility with line managers and employees, building trust, working in partnership with cross-functional teams, and delivering on commitments/expectations.
- Interest in business, commercial, and operational issues.
- Confident engagement with people at all levels, constructive probing, listening, presenting ideas/opinions, providing feedback, and encouraging open communication.
- Analysis, interpretation, and communication of data.
- Excellent organizational skills, prioritization, and attention to detail.
- Positive proactive attitude, accountability, and high-quality service delivery.
- Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office) and HR systems/databases knowledge.
- Diploma/B.Tech/B.Degree in HR or similar.
- 1-3 years’ experience in HR within a medium-sized company; highly competent and experienced in processing and administering all HR activities.
- Experience with Sage VIP People is advantageous.
- SA Board for People Practices registration or working towards registration is advantageous.
