Job Details
Reporting to the Manager, Labour Relations, the Labour Relations Specialist provides labor relations advice to Osler managers, HR business partners, senior labor relations specialists, and HR staff, responding to inquiries from union representatives.
Accountabilities:
- Builds and manages positive working relationships with unions.
- Attends labor management meetings.
- Provides support to the Manager, Labour Relations, and senior labor relations specialists with research for collective bargaining.
- Supports negotiations, including drafting and reviewing negotiation documents and preparing reference documents for information meetings on changes and amendments to collective agreements.
- Attends and participates in contract conciliation meetings and arbitrations.
- Compiles labor relations information for review and analysis by the Manager, Labour Relations, and senior labor relations specialists.
- Develops training materials on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement to HR team staff.
- Researches arbitral case law to assist the Manager, Labour Relations, and/or senior labor relations specialists in developing responses to complex labor relations issues.
- Liaises with HR subject matter experts to gather information.
- Provides advice on labor issues related to Step 2 grievance meetings.
- Attends mediation, arbitration, Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, and Labour Board proceedings.
- Provides counseling and basic advice to managers and HR staff on labor relations matters.
- Applies collective agreement provisions, hospital policies, and employment legislation.
- Contributes to the review, revision, and implementation of labor relations policies and procedures.
- Works with senior labor relations specialists in mapping out labor relations implications resulting from organizational restructuring, realignment, and downsizing.
Requirements:
- Degree in HR with a focus in labor relations/industrial relations or relevant experience.
- Certified Human Resources Leader preferred.
- Tact, diplomacy, mature judgment, and the ability to act appropriately in the face of adversity.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective consultation and coaching skills.
- Computer literacy with Microsoft Office, internet, email, and HRISE applications.
- Budgetary expertise (legal cost reconciliation; strategies to reduce legal costs).
- Working knowledge and practice in interpreting and applying labor and employment legislation and collective agreements.
- Knowledge and experience in applying and interpreting hospital collective agreements (preferred).
- Strong business acumen combined with excellent client service skills.
- Collaborative and interest-based approach to problem-solving.
- Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ability to build trust at all levels.
- Willingness to be flexible with working hours.
- Required to travel between three Osler sites.

Hours: Currently days (subject to change)
Hybrid role: Roles that function remotely, but require essential, regular onsite weekly work.
Annual Salary: Minimum: $85,839.00 Maximum: $107,308.50
